NEW ORLEANS Children's Health Project
The New Orleans Children’s Health Project (NOCHP), a collaboration between Children’s Health Fund and Tulane University School of Medicine, was formed in response to the 2005 Hurricane Katrina disaster.
Today it continues to deliver compassionate, quality care to disadvantaged and medically underserved children in Orleans and Jefferson parishes.
Due to rapid population shifts after Katrina, nearly all patients are immigrant or asylum-seeking children. The NOCHP team offers the only comprehensive medical home for newly arrived immigrant children in Louisiana, providing primary care, medical-legal assistance, behavioral healthcare, and case management services. The team also travels to clinics and school-based health centers to provide trauma-informed, culturally sensitive care.
In addition to providing acute and chronic primary medical care services, NOCHP also ensures that children receive other support and critical services they might need, such as food, legal assistance, education, transportation, sub-specialty mental health care, as well as other social services.
